Apple Releases iOS 7.0.5

Apple has released a minor update to the iOS operating system.  iOS 7.0.5 is intended to primarily provide support for the networks run by China Telecom.  This was necessitated by Apple’s recent agreement with China Telecom to provide the iPhone through them.  The update addresses issues with the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5S connecting to the network. Apple trademarks its Stores to deter copycats

Sam Shead from ZDNet writes that the USPTO has granted Apple a trademark to its stores in order to cut down on copycats. Mr. Shead states, The approval was granted more than two years after the company first filed the application to trademark its stores in May 2010. Apple Introduces Siri in Japanese

Apple’s Tim Cook has announced that Siri will be available in Japanese and will be rolling out the software within the coming weeks.  Siri allows users to control their iPhones with a series of voice commands getting information and instructions from the device.  While Apple has rolled out the typical Germanic languages and romance languages, this will be the first of the asianic languages available on the iPhone 4S.

Apple Announces Winner of $10,000 USD Prize for 25 Billionth Download

Apple has finally announced that a user in China was the winner of the Apple Inc. sponsored prize for downloading the 25 billionth iTunes App.  The user, one Chunli Fu of Qungdao, China downloaded the free Disney app, “Where’s My Water” to push the download mark over the 25 billion mark.  He will receive $10,000 USD in the iTunes App Store int he form of a gift card. Currently, there are more than 550,000 apps in the iTunes App Store…

Proview now suing Apple in California

Proview, the China based bankrupt company which supposedly owns the iPad name is now suing Apple in California.  The company is still embroiled in a battle in mainland China, but no decision has been made there.   Proview is now accusing Apple of using deceptive practices in their purchase of the iPad name, thereby denying Proview fair value on the name. Apple Tells Proview to Shut their Mouths or Face the Wrath

Apple in Hot Water in France Over 3rd Party Sales

Apple, Inc Fined 900,000 Euros for Lack of Clarity in AppleCare Sales

Apple Inc’s Italian division has been fined 900,000 Euros (1.2 Million USD) for failing to comply with Italian statutes regarding warranties on their products.  Italian law requires manufacturers to provide a minimum of two years warranty on electronic products, yet Apple was only providing one year.   They also were having customers sign contracts for the two year extension on the warranty, when only one year extension should have been required.
