Apple trademarks its Stores to deter copycats

Sam Shead from ZDNet writes that the USPTO has granted Apple a trademark to its stores in order to cut down on copycats. Mr. Shead states, The approval was granted more than two years after the company first filed the application to trademark its stores in May 2010. Apple Store Down in Preparation for iPhone 5 Pre-orders

The Apple Store has been taken down in preparation for the start of the iPhone 5 pre-orders.   While the phone was announced on the 12, actual shipping of the product will not begin until the 21st of the month.   Also, in coordination with the outage, AT&T has a counter on their website as well.   Apple is expecting that they will sell over 5 million units of the new iPhone 5 over the first three days they are available. http://store.apple.com/

The Apple store went down at 12:00pm ET today.  No known reason for the outage is available, however, the message on the website circulates through multiple languages pointing to the possibility that it is a global outage for a possible website update or change. Apple Store now down in anticipation of new products

Apple has shut down their Store (http://store.apple.com) in preparation for the upcoming announcements of new products.  We can only assume that the new product is the iPhone 5 as that is what Apple has told us that today’s event is about.  Any other goodies they decide to add will just be icing on the cake. This shut down has become commonplace with each event Apple has held in the past several years and thus is no real surprise.
