Apple re-Introduces iOS App Control in iTunes

In one of its not-so-loud updates to iTunes, Apple has re-introduced the ability to control your iOS apps from your computer with a release of iTunes 12.6.3.   According to the website, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208079,

Apple offers Volume Purchase Programs and Apple Configurator on Mac to help enterprise environments manage and mass-deploy apps on iOS devices. But certain business partners might still need to use iTunes to install apps.

Install apps with iTunes

If you’ve already installed a newer version of iTunes, you can download this version of iTunes on your Mac, PC 32-bit or PC 64-bit* and run the installer. After installation is complete, you can continue to deploy apps with iTunes.

You won’t be prompted to download new versions of iTunes after you install this version. Manually update to the latest version of iTunes when you’re ready to upgrade.

*Apple provides technical support only for the latest version of iTunes.

This changes the control of iTunes App control back to the user but there are a few important caveats here.  The first being that you will need to manually update iTunes.  The second is that the next to last line of the page states Apple’s official position on being in a position to support this particular version.  They wont!
