The CLK Clock Signal multi-platform Emulator has been updated. 26 Feb 2025 release of CLK introduced the following changes to the platform:
- adds nascent Commodore 16/Plus 4 emulation, a work-in-progress;
- fixes a potential crash at startup for the MSX 2;
- reduces potential memory leaks for any machine that uses disks;
- improves the Mac UI with: a modern icon, improved menu wording and closer-to-QuickTime behaviour for showing the in-window machine controls; and
- experimentally, primarily for the ZX Spectrum and on macOS only, attempts automatically to relaunch media that has been changed by an external program (e.g. if you reassemble software you are developing).
Clock Signal (‘CLK’) is an emulator that seeks to be invisible. Users directly launch classic software, avoiding the learning curves associated with emulators and with classic machines. The platform is for MacOS and includes emulation for the following platforms:
It currently contains emulations of the:
| Acorn Electron; Amstrad CPC; Apple II/II+ and IIe; Atari 2600; Atari ST; ColecoVision; Commodore Vic-20; | Enterprise 64/128; Macintosh 128K, 512K, 512Ke, and Plus; MSX 1 and 2; Oric 1/Atmos; Sega Master System; Sinclair ZX80/81; and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. |
The system includes some preliminary emulation for the following platforms as well, although they are still a bit rudimentary:
- Acorn Archimedes;
- Commodore Plus 4;
- Commodore Amiga; and
- early PC compatible.
