Description
DEVIL’S DUNGEON is an Apple II adventure game which was first released by C. William Engels and Apple Pugetsound Program Library Exchange in 1978 and is considered to be the first RPG game to be commercially available.
Originally programmed and provided to A.P.P.L.E. by C. William Engel, Devil’s Dungeon has been modified to run under Integer BASIC on the Apple II by Val J. Golding as part of the 1978 release of the A.P.P.L.E. Nightmare Gamepack, a package of games for Integer BASIC included as part of DISKPAK 2.
Further modifications were made to the program by Bill Martens of A.P.P.L.E. in order to produce the standalone version of the game for the purposes of historical representation of the original game. Source Code for the original version of the game as well as the modified version are included in this manual. In addition to the full play instructions are also included as part of this manual in order to allow users to further modify the program.
A DOS 3.3 based floppy disk which auto-boots to the Devil’s Dungeon game is also available from A.P.P.L.E.
