Apple, Inc. sent out invitations to an October 23rd announcement event. The event, scheduled to be held at the 1122 seat California Theatre in San Jose, has long been expected to be the introduction of the rumored iPad Mini. Another rumor floating around is that Apple will introduce a smaller MacBook Pro at the event as well.

The Apple Store has been taken down in preparation for the start of the iPhone 5 pre-orders. While the phone was announced on the 12, actual shipping of the product will not begin until the 21st of the month. Also, in coordination with the outage, AT&T has a counter on their website as well. It is possible that an iPhone 5 prototype has made its way out of the unknown labs at Apple. According to a Gizmodo article, it appears that a Chinese manufacturer of iPhone cases is showing an iPhone 5 in one of their cases, complete with the miniaturized dock connector. No known reason for the outage is available, however, the message on the website circulates through multiple languages pointing to the possibility that it is a global outage for a possible website update or change. Apple has released an update to their Thunderbolt Software, bringing it to version 1.2.1. The latest version of the software adds the support for the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adapter which comes as an option with the new Mac Book Pro. In response to Microsoft’s release of their new “Surface” tablet, Apple has done exactly what one would expect they would do in lieu of a new product release. Release a commercial. Apple announced their quarterly profits today with their net profits up a whopping 94% over 2nd quarter 2011. During 2nd quarter 2012, Apple sold a total of 35.1 million iPhones and 11.8 million iPads resulting in a quarterly net profit of 11.8 Billion USD during the quarter. Apple has released the same Flashback Trojan Removal Tool that is found in the Java update for OS X 2012-003 as a standalone tool. The new standalone version of the tool is for those users without Java installed. Apple has released a third update to Java for both Mac OS x Lion and Mac OS X 10.6 to deal with the infections of the Flashback Trojan. Infections reached a whopping 600,000 machines globally according to three anti-virus companies that were monitoring it (Dr. Web, the discoverer of the Trojan, Kaspersky, and Symantec) , however, that number has dropped to 270,000 in recent days. Apple has had a knee-jerk reaction to the discovery of the Flashback Trojan that has infected up to 600,000 Macs globally. Dr. Web, a small Russian anti-virus company, first discovered the Flashback Trojan and has been monitoring infections on a global basis.
