Seattle, Washington — July 24, 2020 — Apple Pugetsound Program Library Exchange (A.P.P.L.E.) is proud to announce the availability of a new manual for “Higher Text Plus” written by Ron Aldrich and Darrell Aldrich in 1980.
Generate upper and lower case text in a variety of typefaces, sizes, and colors from your programs for display on the Apple II hi-resolution screen. Features an easy-to-use editor for creation of your own unique character sets, with over 90 fonts included. Several additional utilities enhance your creation of hi-res displays. This program assumes a working knowledge of Applesoft BASIC.

“Higher Text Plus” is available through the A.P.P.L.E. bookstore with production and fulfillment by Lulu.com. The Color Paperback has a color interior. A disk image is available on the Apps page.

Authors
Ron Aldrich and Darrell Aldrich – were very prolific Apple II programmers who provided software in the early days to Synergistic Software and in turn to A.P.P.L.E. via Robert C. Clardy. Together, they wrote a number of titles including several in the Academic Hallmarks produced Knowledge Master series in the areas of biology and earth sciences. They also hold a number of patents in the area of glass coatings for insulation and have been prolific producers in the scientific community for many years. Ron and Darrell were single-handedly responsible for changing the way users presented text on a display when they wrote their best-selling Higher Text for the Apple II and the accompanying fonts – allowing users to present software that was not only impressive to see but also easy to use.

Bill Martens — Apple historian and enthusiast, programmer, President of Apple Pugetsound Program Library Exchange (A.P.P.L.E.) and co-producer of Call-A.P.P.L.E. magazine, and books like: Cyber Jack, Synergistic Software: The Early Games, Nibble Viewpoints, The WOZPAK Special Edition, and What’s Where in the Apple: Enhanced Edition. Bill also co-produced and co-programmed the retro iOS game Structris. Bill is the author of ApPilot/W1, Beyond Quest, The Anatomy of an EAMON, and multiple EAMon adventure games. He is a systems engineer specializing in office infrastructures and has been programming since 1976. And he is the production editor for the A.P.P.L.E. website CallAPPLE.org, writes science fiction novels in his spare time, and is a retired semi-pro football player.
