A.P.P.L.E. User Group Meeting Minutes

A.P.P.L.E. Meeting Minutes

The March Meeting for the A.P.P.L.E. User Group Meeting was held online with the meeting being brought to order by Bill Martens.

The initial items on the agenda were the releases of the February and March issues of Call-A.P.P.L.E. It was announced that both of these issues would be posted the first week of April due to the size of the files, and the problems working from a laptop creates.

Announcements:

The new peeking at Call-A.P.P.L.E. Magazine prints for 1978 to 1980 were released with Brian talking about this release and the immediate availability of the books to the members.

The release of the Witch Trial Adventure Game was also talked about with both the manual and box for the game in process. Also a new release of the game was being worked on with some of the bug fixes forthcoming in the next few days.

Featured Speaker:

This month’s featured speaker was Dan Henderson along with Marc Golombeck, two of the three men who along with Roby Sherman of Crow Cousins Software created the Witch Trial Adventure Game, the first double low-resolution graphics RPG game for the Apple II computer.

Dan Henderson talked about how the game came about with walks through his home locale and the different historical markers in the town. He then talked in detail about the artwork he created and how Marc with his low-resolution graphics programming library and Roby with the RPG engine managed to pull off the feat of creating a game that is completely controlled from the mouse and keyboard, including the ability to obtain information throughout the game from NPCs.

Marc Golombeck then took over the floor and talked about his work with the DOLORES Applesoft programming library in relation to the game as well as some of the work that was ongoing with his new animation product, FFEDIT which would be released shortly.

Closing:

The meeting was brought to an initial close with the thanking of our guests and attendees and then the official part of the meeting was brought to an end.

The next part of the meeting was a quick run-through of the Catalano archives which contained the Mac-A.P.P.L.E./Mac Horizons issues as well as the APDA Log issues which arrived literally as the meeting was ending. Announcements related to the materials will be made in a future user group meeting
