ORCA/C 2.2.0 Update Released

Steve Heumann announced the immediate release of ORCA/C 2.2.0, a major update to Mike Westerfield’s ORCA/C Compiler for the Apple IIgs.

Some of the improvements in the ORCA/C compiler include the following items:

  • Added support for almost all language and library features required by the C17 standard
  • Improved lint checks and debugging features to help detect errors
  • New command-line options for pre-include files and C standard selection
  • Improvements to generated code
  • Auto-segmenting linker
  • Hundreds of bug fixes
  • And more

According to the readme posted with the update, you can download the ORCA/C manual for free. The readme file and a detailed release notes file can also be downloaded from the ORCA/C Compiler GitHub site.

For those users who are running ORCA/C, this update requires a minimum of ORCA/C 2.1 to update. The SHK image must be copied to the Apple IIgs platform and then the update can be performed using

COPY -C :ORCAC.220:=

within the root directory of the ORCA/C Installation via the ORCA Shell. According to the installation notes, it should work fine under GNO and Golden Gate.

You can download the latest version of the ORCA/C program from the ORCA/C Github Page curated by Steve at: https://github.com/byteworksinc/ORCA-C
