A.P.P.L.E. to Host Terry Allen’s Apple II Site

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 14th 2002

Seattle — Apple PugetSound Program Library Exchange (A.P.P.L.E.) has completed arrangements which will see the extensive Apple II site created by Terry Allen of Australia being hosted and maintained by A.P.P.L.E..  The web Site which was formerly hosted at http://www..educate.net.au/~apple2 will be transferred and integrated with the current A.P.P.L.E. web environment to complement their existing Apple II content.

Earlier in 2002, Terry, an Apple II user since 1981, announced in the comp.sys.apple2 newsgroup due to the time requirements of the project he would no longer be in a position to maintain and update the site, but wanted the resource to remain available as an active part of the Internet. Several Apple II veterans including A.P.P.L.E contacted Terry.

While this agreement was begun in early 2002, several items delayed the Implementation.  Those delays aside, A.P.P.L.E. has been moving forward with the project and has agreed to host and update the site on a regular basis in conjunction with their other efforts. A.P.P.L.E. will host the site at http://www.callapple.org/apple2 in order to maintain a similarity to the original site.

The site, once transferred, will retain much of it’s original concept, with a user friendly atmosphere and the same basic layout and will remain a freely available resource to the global Apple II community, with A.P.P.L.E.’s Apple II message forum being positioned to cover the forums formerly on Terry’s web site. The repositioning will allow Apple II users to interact with existing A.P.P.L.E. members as well as other members of the Apple II community.

One of the major attractions for Apple II users to the original site is that Terry had been able to come to an agreement with Apple Computer Australia for versions of Apple II manuals to be made available in their entirety. A.P.P.L.E. hopes to continue enhancing this resource by updating and expanding this and other content areas of the original site.

In conjunction with A.P.P.L.E., Terry will continue his contact and administration of sections of the site on occasion, including the handling of email and other correspondence. As Terry says “I’m excited about the possibilities this presents for the original site. After a number of delays on both the personal and business side, I am happy to see this proceed. It is my hope that the agreement with A.P.P.L.E. will allow the expansion of the site with the same spirit in which it was started. I’m just glad to see it continue on and while it won’t be a full time exercise, I’ll be looking in from time to time and answering email for the site as in the past.”

A.P.P.L.E.’s Bill Martens had this to say about the new section of the site “A.P.P.L.E. is glad that we were in a position to assist Terry and continue the legacy he has created for the Apple II community.  We certainly hope to continue to make more resources like this available to both our members and the Apple community as a whole.”
