Apple Inc. (AAPL) announced their first quarter results in a conference call today posting sales of $46.33 Billion USD. According to a report by GigaOm, Apple has overtaken all of the other large hardware manufacturers to become the number one purchaser of semiconductors. The report states that Apple spend a total of $17.3 Billion USD last year on semiconductors. This change in the top rank has been spurred on by the iPhone and iPad’s popularity and demand. Apple will be holding Conference Call at 5pm EST today to report the fiscal year 2012 first quarter profits. While many in the industry are expecting lower overall numbers, it seems that they are at the expecting high numbers at Apple. According to ColinW.
