News: A.P.P.L.E. to re-establish users group in Seattle.
A.P.P.L.E., The world’s largest users group returns to the Apple community
Seattle, Wa. – 1 March 2002 — Apple PugetSound Program Library Exchange (A.P.P.L.E.), one of the worlds largest user groups from the 1970’s and 1980’s has been re-established. Former A.P.P.L.E. employees, directors, and authors decided to revive the users group with the focus of the group being the entire line of Apple computers including the latest models.
The decision to revive the group was based on the success of the project by Bill Martens to preserve materials from the group during the 1978 to 1990 time frame. With A.P.P.L.E. founder Val Golding’s input and guidance, the group was re-started by Bill Martens. A website containing all of the information and materials from the group has been put online. This focus of A.P.P.L.E.’s current agenda is in stark contrast to the 1984 era where the Apple II programmers’ world was separated by those who were faithful to the Apple II line and those who wanted to see the Macintosh line become the mainstream computer.
A.P.P.L.E. will once again provide software to its members as well as support for those models of computers that are no longer mainstream models. This software will include items that were available in the 1970’s and 1980’s as well as newer software produced by mainstream programmers.
The group will maintain its presence in the Internet world with a physical presence being established within the coming months most likely in the Seattle area.
About A.P.P.L.E.
A.P.P.L.E. is an all volunteer user’s group which supports members in the Apple II , Macintosh and iMac communities. The members run the organization as well as support all aspects of the business. A.P.P.L.E. was established in 1978, the main offices were closed in 1990. The group continued to operate throughout the 1990’s through the efforts of Dick Hubert and Norman Dodge with the BBS being shut down in 2001. The A.P.P.L.E. user group was then re-organized and re-established in 2002. Further information about the group can be found at it’s web site at www.callapple.org.
